This anthology was pretty embedded. It was a series of stories within a story in a story in another story. Ultimately, they could’ve gotten rid of at least one of the outside stories and the movie still been effective. It ended up being a lot to keep up with. But it was still a good movie. It reminded me of Creepshow or Bag of Bones. And I really enjoyed the retro filming style.
"A Killer's in the House" - 4
This was the main story. It was a pretty typical storyline with a babysitter involved, but I sitll enjoyed it. They showed a lot of classic old scary movie cameos in the commercials on the tv during this story too which were neat. There was even a little shocking moment towards the end. Just a hint to stay tuned in a little after the credits start rolling to see the conclusion of this story though.
"Skeletons in the Closet" - 3
This story they probably could have gotten rid of altogether. It was kind of cheesy and had some cute bantering. It seemed like the purpose of this segment was to explain the other stories, which was helpful, but it shouldn’t be needed.
"Chop Shop" - 4
This is the “movie” that the characters in the previous two stories are watching and even though there isn’t much of it, I really liked how it linked most of the following stories together.
"Grandma O'Malley's Pantry" - 3
The effect in this story may have been a bit overdone. They kept doing this flashing thing that was neat at first, but then got annoying. There was a pretty creepy grandma in this and the story line was decent, but I felt like I wanted more of an explanation at the end.
"Meisner" - 4
This story had potential, but it was super short -- about 5 minute. It literally ended just as it was getting started. It may have deserved more time than some of the other stories, but I enjoyed the little I saw.
"Dismantler" - 4
This story is actually longer than it needed to be. It was still a good and intriguing story, but the tone made it a bit predictable.
